Thailand’s financial regulator has approved USDT for trading and payments.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand (SEC) has recognized Tether’s USDT as a legitimate cryptocurrency. Now, crypto trading platforms are allowed to list the stablecoin on their platforms and use it for transactions.

The new regulations will take effect on March 16, 2025. According to authorities, these measures aim to enhance business flexibility in the digital asset sector.

The initiative’s approval followed discussions with the public and businesses. Currently, USDT accounts for approximately 40% of cryptocurrency trading volume in the country. Overall, Thailand is one of the most crypto-friendly jurisdictions and ranks among the top 20 countries globally in terms of digital asset adoption.

It is expected that the formal recognition of USDT as a legal payment method will create favorable conditions for increasing both domestic financial activity and attracting external investment assets.

Overall, such steps by national governments contribute to strengthening the global financial infrastructure and expanding earning opportunities for crypto investors.
